Ms. Vakharia’s experience representing both plaintiffs and defendants in complex antitrust litigation allows her to advocate on behalf of clients based on a 360 degree perspective and an in-depth understanding of the issues.

OVERVIEW

Aakruti G. Vakharia is an associate at Haug Partners’ New York office, where she focuses on Complex Antitrust Litigation. She has experience representing both plaintiffs and defendants in complex antitrust cases, with particular expertise of the Pharmaceutical and Transportation industries.

Ms. Vakharia is also committed to giving back to the community. She is active participant in Haug Partners’ pro bono practice. She has previously served as a co-chair for the Student Outreach Committee and currently serves as a co-chair of the Litigation Committee of the Asian American Bar Association of New York, and as a co-chair of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association’s Litigation Committee. She also serves as a judge for the Thomas Tang Moot Court Competition and Fordham Law School’s trial advocacy competitions.

Prior to joining Haug Partners, Ms. Vakharia was an associate at a boutique antitrust firm where she represented direct purchaser plaintiffs in multidistrict pharmaceutical antitrust litigation. During law school, Ms. Vakharia interned for Hon. Jose L. Linares at the Federal District Court for the District of New Jersey, and spent her second summer working on real estate, bankruptcy and corporate matters.

Ms. Vakharia earned her J.D. from Fordham Law School (2018) with a concentration in Litigation and Dispute Resolution. At Fordham, she was a nationalist at the 2016 Thomas Tang Moot Court Competition and a semi-finalist at the 2018 William Tendy Trial Advocacy Competition. She also received the Archibald R. Murray Public Service Award for her work with Fordham’s Federal Litigation Clinic, and served on the executive boards of Fordham’s Asian Pacific American Law Students Association and South Asian Law Students Association.

Prior to starting law school, Ms. Vakharia spent two years working as a litigation paralegal in New York for a practice group specializing in FINRA arbitrations, securities litigation and real estate litigation. Before that, she spent two years serving on the JET Program and interning at a law firm in Osaka, Japan which specialized in multinational family law and corporate law.

Ms. Vakharia is also committed to giving back to the community. She is active participant in Haug Partners’ pro bono practice. REPRESENTATIVE CASES

  • Currently representing Supernus Pharmaceuticals in defending against antitrust, claims related to Apokyn.
  • Currently representing a major American freight railway in an antitrust litigation related to fuel surcharges.
  • Currently representing an international yacht broker in the Yacht Brokers Antitrust Litigation.
  • Currently representing Shire in a complex antitrust matter in Federal Court, related to the drug Intuniv. Advised the Antitrust Practice Group in an arbitration with a class member, resulting in a victory for Shire on the issue of arbitrability.
  • Currently representing Takeda Pharmaceutical Company, Limited in a complex antitrust action involving an allegation against Takeda and Par of a reverse payment for the drug Amitiza.
  • Represented a multinational pharmaceutical corporation in the damages phase of a complex commercial litigation involving a drug shortage.
  • Represented two separate pro bono clients at telephonic hearings before Administrative Law Judges at the Unemployment Insurance Appeal Board,. Ms. Vakharia secured a judgment in favor of both of her clients receiving full unemployment insurance benefits for each.
  • Co-drafted an Amicus brief to the Supreme Court of the United States, on behalf of the Federal Circuit Bar Association, in Arellano v. McDonough.
  • Represented the Direct Purchaser Class Plaintiffs in In re Namenda Direct Purchaser Antitrust Litigation on the question of whether Defendants entered into an unlawful reverse payment to delay entry of generic Namenda IR after engaging in an unlawful product hop resulting from a “hard switch” from twice-a-day Namenda IR to once-a-day Namenda XR. The case settled for $750 million in 2019.
