Why Haug Partners?
Joining Haug Partners means becoming part of a firm with a 25-year track record of developing and delivering pioneering legal solutions and exceptional multidisciplinary legal services, often in complex, high-stakes matters. Our team of skilled attorneys use their extensive technical expertise, legal acumen, and business judgment to consistently deliver optimal outcomes for our clients.
Joining Haug Partners means joining a firm that wholeheartedly invests in your future. In addition to an industry-leading compensation and benefits package, we also provide ongoing mentorship, training, and professional development opportunities.
Professional Development & Work Assignments
Mentorship is a critical piece of our commitment to our associates’ professional development. Associates work directly with partners throughout their careers at Haug Partners. This immersive hands-on training and one-on-one mentoring starts at the beginning of the summer associate program and continues for our full-time associates.
Haug Partners provides numerous formal training opportunities for our attorneys:
- Practical oral advocacy skills (direct and cross examinations, oral arguments, etc.) are honed in Haug Partners’ state-of-the-art mock courtroom in the New York office.
- Our Practice Group leaders work with associates to develop and conduct in-house CLE workshops that keep our attorneys up to date on the latest legal developments.
- Our attorneys also have unlimited free access to the seminars, workshops, live webcasts, and on-demand learning tools offered by the Practicing Law Institute, a continuing legal education organization.
Unlike many other firms, Haug Partners assigns responsibilities for junior associates on a merit basis, with a less rigid emphasis on seniority. When one of our associates demonstrates the initiative, desire, and ability to tackle a particular project, they are given that opportunity much earlier in their career than their counterparts at other law firms. For example, it is common for junior associates to interact with clients and opposing counsel, substantively contribute to writing briefs and other documents, take and defend depositions, and play meaningful roles in trials and hearings.

Summer Associate Program
Our summer associate program is a 10-week snapshot of life as an associate at Haug Partners. The program emphasizes practical training and real-world experiences, combined with social activities to get to know the firm’s attorneys and staff.
Our summer associates work on real pending matters, not hypothetical academic exercises. Our primary goal is to introduce our summers to the rigorous and exciting working environment of Haug Partners. Summers work directly with partners and associates, and receive real-time training and feedback. Each summer candidate is also formally partnered with an associate mentor who provides guidance on all aspects of life at Haug Partners.
Our summers get to know their Haug Partners colleagues through social activities, such as lunches and dinners with our attorneys, firm parties on our office’s outdoor terrace overlooking Central Park, local sporting events, wine tastings, and cooking classes.
Our summer program is based in our New York office—just steps away from Central Park.
INSIDER PERSPECTIVES
As a summer associate at Haug Partners, I was able to get an accurate picture of working at the firm, experiencing first-hand the value the firm places on its associates. I had the opportunity to work on a variety of interesting and substantive projects with a group of very talented lawyers. I was amazed by the amount of responsibility I was given over the course of the summer. From the very start of the program, I was put on high-profile, high-stakes patent cases, where my work was used and relied upon by the teams. When I returned to the firm the following year as an associate, I was able to rejoin those teams I helped during the summer and see those cases all the way through trial and post-trial briefings.
A unique attribute of Haug Partners’ summer program is that summer associates are encouraged to diversify their legal experience and gain opportunities in all of the practice areas available at the firm, rather than limiting their exposure to a single legal field like patent prosecution or IP litigation. As a summer associate, I not only worked on litigation matters, but I was also able to work on pharmaceutical regulatory, licensing, transactional, and patent prosecution matters.
Haug Partners takes a vested interest in the development of its summer associates by providing them with real opportunities for growth and guidance through its summer mentoring initiative. I did not just spend my summer writing memos, but I was able to attend client and expert meetings, Markman hearings, and depositions. Aside from the substantive work opportunities that I was offered, the firm planned fun events around NYC – cooking classes, wine tasting, sporting events, and team activities to name a few. Not only was I able to explore a new city, I got to know my potential colleagues. Overall, I was able to determine that Haug Partners was a place I could work at and build my legal career. I cannot imagine a better summer experience.
I lateralled to Haug Partner in 2019 to further bolster the Firm’s Antitrust Litigation & Counseling Practice. From my initial interviews to receiving an offer, the entire experience was engaging and professional. Throughout my experience, everyone was warm, welcoming, and genuine. I ultimately chose Haug Partners because the Firm showed sincere interest in investing in my growth as a lawyer. Since joining, that interest has proven real.
As a Haug Partners associate, you are not simply tasked with assignments—you become an integral member of a team. From day one, I was given a seat at the table, working on cutting-edge, complex cases, helping to solve clients’ bet-the-company issues alongside outstanding and strategic lawyers. On any given day, I may be crafting litigation strategy, performing legal research, drafting pleadings and motions, and preparing for trial or appeal, to advising and assisting clients in regulatory and compliance matters.
Through its size, Haug Partners has successfully cultivated a uniquely collaborative environment, where an open-door policy is the norm and everyone is eager to support each other. I have been incredibly fortunate to advance my career through mentorship from partners, as well as fellow associates. People ultimately make up a firm, and the people at Haug Partners—partners, associates, scientific advisors, and staff alike—are the kind of people you want to work with every day.
