Haug Partners Elects Ed Haug as its first Chairman and Sandra Kuzmich, Ph.D. as Managing Partner of the Firm

Haug Partners LLP announced today that its partnership has elected Ed Haug as its first Chairman of the Firm. In his role as Chairman, Mr. Haug will continue as a full equity partner of the Firm and will chair the Executive Committee as well as the Compensation Committee. He will continue to represent Firm clients in litigations and various other legal matters and lead many of the Firm’s most important client and bar association relationships.

The Firm also announced that Sandra Kuzmich, Ph.D. was elected as the Firm’s second Managing Partner and succeeds Ed Haug as his current Managing Partner term ends. Dr. Kuzmich will also be a member of the Executive Committee.

Ed Haug was one of the Firm’s founding partners in 1997 and served as the Firm’s Managing Partner for more than 10 years. Mr. Haug has also led the Firm’s Litigation and Hatch-Waxman practice groups during that time. He is admitted to practice before the bars of New York, the Second Circuit, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court.

Mr. Haug has consistently been recognized as one of the nation’s leading trial litigators, having tried cases in numerous federal and state courts nationwide. His practice focuses on intellectual property, FDA and commercial litigation among other complimentary practice areas. Mr. Haug has represented companies in many industries including pharmaceuticals, manufacturing and financial services, automotive, consumer electronics and computer technology. His clients have included Takeda, Shire, Celgene, Biogen, Sanofi, Supernus, Tokyo Electron, Porsche, Bentley, Ferrari and Volkswagen and many private equity and venture capital firms. Mr. Haug, together with foreign counsel, has represented clients on a wide range of matters involving Europe and Asia.

In addition to Mr. Haug’s activities as the Firm’s Managing Partner and as practicing trial attorney, Mr. Haug recently served as President of the Federal Circuit Bar Association (“FCBA”) and as a member of the Board of Governors. He is also a member of the New Jersey patent rules committee and is a “ranked attorney” in Chambers USA, and a member of the National Association of Distinguished Counsel. Mr. Haug is currently on the Board of Governors for the Metropolitan Club as well as the President of the Haug Family Foundation. Mr. Haug was a Ford Merit Scholar at the University of Notre Dame, graduating in 1974 with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. Mr. Haug graduated with his J.D. from St. John’s Law School in 1978 and also studied law in Exeter, England.

Dr. Kuzmich joined Haug Partners in 1999 as a scientific advisor and became a partner in 2006. Since becoming a partner, she has served in multiple leadership positions in the Firm. Dr. Kuzmich served as Head of the Associates’ Committee, and was elected to the Firm’s Executive Committee and Compensation Committee. Until her election to Managing Partner, she has served as co-chair of Haug Partner’s Life Science practice.

Dr. Kuzmich received her undergraduate degree in chemistry from Douglass College of Rutgers University, Phi Beta Kappa, and earned her Ph.D. in pharmacology from Yale University. Upon earning her doctorate degree, she became a post-doctoral research associate with the Fox Chase Cancer Center. Dr. Kuzmich also spent several years in the pharmaceutical industry, managing departments in the United States in the areas of drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics and collaborating with Asian and European counterparts to coordinate worldwide regulatory submissions.

Dr. Kuzmich earned her J.D. in 2001 from Fordham University School of Law. Her practice focuses on patent litigation and strategic intellectual property counseling in the areas of pharmaceuticals, chemicals, and biotechnology. Her clients have included The Medicines Company, BioCryst Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Supernus, Sanofi, and Takeda.

Dr. Kuzmich is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and has been admitted to practice before the bars of New York, Connecticut, the Southern District of New York, the Eastern District of New York, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Dr. Kuzmich is a member of the New York Bar Association, the Connecticut Bar Association, and also the Federal Circuit Bar Association, where she currently serves on the Association’s Board of Directors.
